The APPG will achieve this by bringing together parliamentarians, business leaders, investors, trade experts, academia and civil society to examine the opportunities and challenges facing international trade, develop evidence-based policy recommendations and promote collaboration between government and industry. Through its work, the Group will help shape a modern, resilient and internationally competitive trading environment that delivers prosperity across the whole of the United Kingdom.
Our Areas of Focus
Developing investment pipelines into the UK
International investment is essential to driving sustainable economic growth, increasing productivity, and creating high-quality jobs across the UK. Working with government, industry, investors and regional partners, the APPG will identify barriers to investment and examine opportunities to improve the UK's competitiveness. This workstream will explore how the UK can develop stronger and more coordinated investment pipelines, given how important domestic investment remains key to economic security and long-term resilience.
Enhancing the UK-EU trading relationship
Strengthening cooperation where it delivers mutual benefit will be key to supporting economic growth, reducing unnecessary barriers to trade and enhancing the competitiveness of UK businesses operating internationally. This workstream will examine the evolving UK-EU relationship and identify practical opportunities to improve trade, investment and regulatory cooperation. As the UK's trading relationships continue to evolve, the group will champion evidence-based policy recommendations that promote a stable, constructive and commercially focused partnership with the EU while supporting the UK's wider international trade objectives.
Economic security through resilient supply chains
Recent global events have demonstrated how vital resilient, diversified, and secure supply chains are to the UK's economic prosperity. With geopolitical uncertainty now a constant point of consideration, businesses are increasingly required to adapt to a more complex international trading environment. The APPG will examine the role of trade policy, investment, infrastructure, and emerging technologies in supporting economic security while maintaining the UK's position as an open and globally connected trading nation.
Regional based growth to unlock higher GDP per capita
This workstream will explore how national and regional partners can work together to strengthen the export capabilities of SMEs across the UK. The APPG will engage with businesses, combined authorities, local growth organisations, industry bodies, and trade experts to identify the barriers that prevent firms from exporting and scaling internationally. Key areas include access to finance, trade support, skills, and international networks, ensuring that businesses in every part of the UK are equipped to seize global opportunities and contribute to more balanced and inclusive economic growth.
