APPG for International Trade & Investment – Autumn 2025 Update
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for International Trade & Investment has had a busy few months and is gearing up for an active Autumn 2025. From inquiries to discussion-based events, the group continues to champion the role of international trade in driving UK economic growth.
On Thursday 9th October, the APPG launched its latest inquiry entitled The Trade Triangle, which explores how the government’s recently announced Industrial Strategy, Trade Strategy, and Small Business Plan can deliver tangible local benefits for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The inquiry will assess and explore how these strategies can be aligned effectively to unlock opportunities across the regions of the UK.
We will continue to collect evidence from SMEs over the next couple of months and publish a summary of responses in Spring 2026 to provide insights to policy stakeholders and wider industry and drive recommendations for regional adoption of key policies. You can find more information about submitting to the inquiry here.
Meanwhile the APPG launched its Power of Place campaign during International Trade Week (3-7 November), which will allow parliamentarians two months in which to nominate exporters through a video, blog or op-ed. This initiative seeks to spotlight the contribution of small business exporters across the UK’s nations and regions.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the critical role that MSMEs play in driving regional economic growth and global trade as many amazing businesses can often fly under the radar.
Turning from championing exporting success to interrogating the power of fintech, the APPG is excited to announce that we will be hosting a ‘Fintech in Focus: powering growth and investment for Global Britain’ on the 18th November at 15:00pm. Richard Baker, Founder and CEO at Tokenovate, will steer discussions as Chair. He will be joined on the panel by:
- Lord Dominic Johnson – APPG Vice Chair and former Minister for Investment
- Rory Tanner, Head of Government Affairs at Revolut
- Clare Black, Chief Operating Officer, Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology (CFIT)
- Jane Galvin, Head of Corporate Clients, Santander UK
The event will bring together leading voices from across the UK’s fintech community and will explore how the UK can maintain its position as a global fintech leader amid intensifying international competition.
With the Autumn Budget taking place on 26th November, the discussion will provide a timely forum to consider the sector’s pivotal role in driving growth, innovation, and investment, and its importance to the Government’s ambition for a globally competitive Britain.
As we approach 2026, we are excited for new opportunities. If there are areas of focus you think we should be looking at as an APPG, within our broad four strategic pillars below, please do not hesitate to get in touch with chris.herman@northpointstrategy.co.uk
